Action On Stroke Month 2015

28 April 2015

Friday 01 May 2015 marks the first day of Action on Stroke Month 2015.

The Stroke Association is urging people to take part in ‘Make May Purple’ to raise awareness and funds to conquer stroke.

Every year there are approximately 152,000 strokes in the UK- one stroke every three and a half minutes. The majority of people affected are over 65 but anyone can have a stroke.

You can recognise a stroke using the FAST test:

FACIAL weakness: Can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?

ARM weakness: Can the person raise both arms?

SPEECH problems: Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?

TIME to call 999 if you see any one of these three signs. Stroke is always a medical emergency that requires immediate medical attention.
