LOOK OUT FOR HIDDEN SALT
26 February 2016
Salt Awareness Week 2016 (29 February – 06 March 2016)
The 17th National Salt Awareness Week will see Consensus Action on Salt & Health (CASH) celebrating 20 years since they first set out their fight to reduce salt in the UK and improve public health.
Many people now know that eating too much salt is bad for their health and are actively looking to cut down. Thanks to efforts of the food industry, government and health organisations like CASH, salt is well and truly on the health agenda across many countries worldwide.
Many foods still have lots of hidden salt in them – even foods that don’t necessarily taste salty. We all have a responsibility to read the labels and choose foods with less salt, but it is down to the food companies to provide us with low salt options. Equally it is much harder to eat less salt when eating out in restaurants and ordering takeaways, so for this years Salt Awareness Week, CASH will be asking all companies to think with their hearts and add less salt!
A House of Commons Reception is scheduled for 02 March 2016 whereby members of industry and parliament are encouraged to join and discuss the future of salt reduction in the UK.
