BBC News has reported that a universal flu vaccine is looking promising

Further to promising trials, researchers say they are closer to developing a vaccine that will provide life-long protection against any type of flu.

Conventional flu jabs target the molecules on the surface of the flu virus, however these molecules are constantly changing which is why current vaccinations are offered every year.

With recent developments, it is now the main body of the virus that scientists are focusing on as a target for a universal flu jab because it remains the same-unlike the surface molecules.

The research is still in early stages and it will take several years before the clinical trials will be complete for humans.
